Stephen Miller, immigration hypocrite
Stephen Miller is a total hypocrite on immigration, said David Glosser. “I know, because I’m his uncle.” As a senior adviser to President Trump, my nephew is “the architect” of exclusionary immigration policies such as the Muslim travel ban, the radical decrease in accepted refugees, separating children from their parents, and the attempt to ban chain migration. These mean-spirited policies are a denial of his own family’s story. In 1903, my grandfather fled anti-Jewish pogroms in Russia, arriving at Ellis Island “with $8 to his name” and no understanding of English. Through “street corner peddling and sweatshop toil,” our patriarch worked to buy his relatives’ passage to America through “chain migration.” Like today’s Hispanic immigrants, our family was not always welcomed, with “hate-mongers” condemning Jews and other new arrivals as “scum, rapists, gangsters, drunks, and terrorists.” But thanks to “the miracle of America,” the Glosser family had the freedom to work hard and create good lives for their children. Trump, too, is the descendant of immigrants who brought their families here through chain migration. How can these descendants of yesterday’s immigrants portray today’s desperate migrants as “ghoulish caricatures”? My nephew has shamed our ancestors and our country.
