Charity of the week
Millions of children around the world live in extreme poverty, lacking basic necessities such as food and clean water. WE Charity (we.org) works to lift the most vulnerable out of poverty by addressing five key elements essential for sustainable development: education, water, health, food, and opportunity. The organization builds schools and wells, and provides health care and training for local physicians. To address the scarcity of food, it teaches farmers to use innovative techniques and helps communities improve their financial health by training them to budget and attain loans. Founded in 1995, WE Charity has improved access to clean water and sanitation for 1 million, enabled farmers to produce 15 million nutritious meals, and built 1,000 schools across Africa, South America, and Asia.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating. ■
