Charity of the week
The mission of the Blind Children’s Learning Center (blindkids.org) is to empower children with visual impairments to be more independent through early intervention and school readiness. Because so much of what infants and toddlers learn is based on sight, the organization connects visually impaired children from birth to age 3 with physical and developmental specialists in order to help the children overcome obstacles and build critical skills. It has also developed a multisensory and adaptive curriculum, which includes early Braille training and cutting-edge assistive technology, to help visually impaired children gain motor and speech skills that instill confidence and prepare them for future independence. The Santa Ana, Calif.–based center also helps elementary and high school students to continue to receive specialized training.
