Charity of the week
The Center for Asian American Media (caamedia.org) is dedicated to expanding awareness of the Asian-American experience through films, documentaries, and television productions. Founded in 1980, CAAM is the largest organization in the country that funds, produces, and distributes content made by and about the Asian-American community. It regularly partners with PBS and other public media outlets to air new and innovative works, including a recent documentary highlighting three families’ fight for survival after a 2008 earthquake in a Chinese province. With financial support from the government-funded Corporation fo r Public Broadcasting and other donors, CAAM also offers grants to artists and makes its own award-winning productions. Since its inception, CAAM has given $3 million to fund more than 200 projects nationwide.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their governance practices, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating.
